In the last days more often thieves fly in high sec systems and steal the cargo of strip miners.
I won't say this must be eliminatet by the GM but it must be punished, so that we as miners can fight such thieves.
The Problem is we cant attack the thieves because they have a neutral or positive sec rating and if we attack them the police force punish us. So we have to watch the thieve looting our hard mined ore and he has the fun.
So i plead for a possibility to proteced our containers in space!

Why are you leaving containers in space in the first place? |

What you want is the ability to strip mine using a cruiser. Sorry. Go get an indy with a single mining laser if you want no risk.

one cause is the new 5 min dropping cycle for containers. previously we were able to drop the contianer when our transporter reached us. but now only one may drop a container within one cycle.
but our transporter travels between the station and the belt while we are mining and it takes about 2 minutes till he's back. in this time anyone can come around and emtpy the containers.
i know that stripmining was not intended by CCP but it is the way how mining works in a corp. you have some miners with many Lasers and drones and some transporters carrying the ore away. Also you have some fighter that proteced the miners but our fighter can only attack if our opponent has a negative sec rate.
And thievery don't lower the rate even though it is as illigal as podding or attacking an decent citizen.
ok if someone mines singlehanded and leaves his container alone to get back and transport his ore with his other ship away and someone else takes his ore than he dept on his own.

I would just like to point out publicly that Gold Brick is such a canister thief.
Stole about 250k worth of ore from one of our corp mining expeditions as it was being transferred into an indy.
You have been warned everyone. Whenever he enters your system, hide your stuff.

Theres two obvious sides to this.
1/ Dont drop cans.. an easy answer.
2/ Don't steal from cans...you're not roleplaying.
I think we need these exploits removed. The only way to remove this would be to protect the cans directly, ie access to a can for the first 15 mins of its exsistance would be from gang members or corp members only.
OR access to cans from members/corp is green and anyone else who takes from the can gets a temp -2.0 sec rating and can be attacked.
It would also make sense to be able to directly link miners to the cargo transporters, ie one ship mines and its collection is dropped directly into a waiting transport.
Of course, this would not be possible, if you dont have any friends. Awwww :) But then if you cant be bothered or are too greedy to want to share and be in a corp or a gang then i think you deserve your fate...
If you dont have any friends and dont think anyone likes you. Then you can look for me in game. I'll accept almost anyone.

This is exact what we need anyone not in the gang or corp can be attacked by our fighter without getting punished by the police!

Actually, there is a solution, but it is not without risk.
Simply declare corp war on the corp that said canister thief belongs to. That way you can have a pop at them and the police don't interfere (so I have been told.) Even in high security systems.
Of course, if his corp has more ships than you, you have a problem. However, if enough corps did it, there would come a point where the benefits of being a canister thief are outweighed by the risks.
Personally, I think that reasonably secure (i.e. password protected) canisters should be introduced. This would be at a price. No other method of protecting stuff is really realistic.

It takes 100k to found a corp.
Given that they steal 250k per theft, it's pretty easy and profitable to simply form a new "corp" and then transfer over, disbanding the old one. Especially if your corp has only 2 members like Gold Brick's, or 1 member like Grand Negus.
By the time the 48 hours for war declaration (24 vote + 24 warning) are over, the corp you've declared war on no longer exists.
Also, the majority of can*****s, like Teutobod, are in NPC corps that cannot be declared on. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

BSOD
Hmm hadn't thought of that :) But in any case I am probably going to be deleting Grand Negus as one of my alts has taken off and i've become much more interested in playing him verse Grand who is rather limited. Ah well perhaps I'll come back to cargo theft and pirating when the game is flushed out more and it's a bit more engaging.
Here's my take on cargo can theft.

Anyone lacking a philosophy that can guide them beyond the presence of direct consequences as these can theives do deserve your pity. It is pitiful that people mark themselves as such losers over items that do not exist. You see there are only two real things in this game, the kind of society you build and the feelings you generate in others. If you are a person that walks into a unorganized world and you seek to hurt others for fun and damage the functioning and growth of society with theft and killing you mark yourself in REAL way. You say to everyone, "Hi, I am a loser and I really don't have a clue that I am."
However, we do need recourse on these theives. One option is to make a character specifically for killing other players that exploit your desire to behave lawfully (I personally choose to have a third account with a character that can kill anywhere). A better option is probably to simply lock up the cans since trying to make a game mechanic where people can steal but there is also recourse in high sec systems is problematic.

I believe anyoen found stealing cargo should be declared war on.. CEO's may end up punishing the play because he's caused his corp to go to war just for stealing a few isk...

Um ya whatever, save your personal ideals for yourself. Trying to impress your idea of what values are on others is just plain pathetic. Especially when you try to impress real world values on a game..ie not real..a game..perhaps this should be repeated to you a few hundred more times.

I think the cans should have a password protection for the first 15 minutes, that would work pretty well and after 15 minutes you could just deploy another can.

Can't declare war against NPC corps, and in the 24 hours it takes for a war declaration to go into effect, can***** corps like Gold Brick's 2-man corp and Grand Negus' 1-man corp can just spend 100k to form a new corp and disband the old one, nullifying the declaration. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

Post a cruiser to guard your cans...in an operation that is big enough to be called strip mining, the value of can protection is worth it. A good mod'd cruiser can pop a thief faster than he can pop a can. Bookmarks on exiting a hig sec area, if the cops give chase, will help evade the police. But in the end, the valued dirt cans are intact and saved.

i don't think there should be mechanisms in place to "prevent" people like Gold***** from looting your containers, you left it out there in space it's up for grabs.
what i do believe is necessary is a way to punish the thief, for instance a window of time where they become vulnerable to attack without a security loss if anyone takes something from a container that they didn't put there. this window would only apply to the "owner" of the can or to the owner's corp.
even better, give the owner the option to kill the player in real life! ... no? too harsh? hehe

just so you know heres a list of known thieves. gold brick , exorzider , jayz , teoteubo (something like that), eric freelancer, malakie. theres more but i cant remember them. perhaps a database of all known thieves should be published so any corp can reject there application. i personlly will accept a thieve into the corp then blast him in 0.4 space at the soonest possible time. ive heard that passworded cannisters are being made available today july 8 2003, hopefully it will be so and the thieving gits will have to make there own money. i have altered all character standings in the corp box and have pod kill bountys if any of my members kill one. revenge will be sweet, and they will be forever a target for my corp.

I know it can get under your skin sometimes but remember into every life a few dorks must fall. Don't let a bunch of twelve year olds stealing some minerals ruin the game for you. Besides in a month or so they will have to go back to school and won't be able to stay up late anymore.

Hey Chaos, one of our own whos sec status is high has already taken it upon himself to wipe space invaders off the can stealing route.
Last night one such space invader watched his ship go poof, then our cruiser ducked into the base as the other took up position. it was not to long before another space invader went poof. id say both people took turns hanging out in the station. Hell when i get my cruiser, I will be removing space invaders from the map. Damn can thieves. Your the scum of the universe and should be podded. Look forward to my Alt: Reaper to be podding your sorry @ss. "I Live in my OWN LITTLE WORLD....but its okay, they know me HERE!"

well, i lost a merlin going after someone who stole my cans when i was happily shooting at pirates. I was ****ed off, and then thought..o well...next time i will just need to be faster.
If you dont like it when stuff gets stolen adapt to the situation and keep your ore or items in your cargohold.
There is so little you can do about it..and the plans you have will take a long time before they are ready to be preformed by alternative chars.
I'm completly on the side of m00 for once, guess i'm less of a carebear then i thought ;)

"teoteubo" - Teutobod is the name. Last seen in Jita. Member of the Caldari State War Academy. (i.e. can't delcare war on him.
Gold Brick is in his own 2-man corp (both likely chars on one account). He probably changes it and forms a new one every time someone declares on it.
Grand Negus' corp is a 1-man shop.
Another known can***** is Danath. Forget the name of his corp, they may have kicked him after it nearly got them into a war. Operated in Trosquesere/Nausschie last month. ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |
